How to choose liquid fertilizers and additives
Liquids are quick to apply and easy to adjust, which makes them popular for containers, houseplants, hydroponics and mid-season corrections. Decide whether you need a complete plant food or a targeted supplement.
- Complete liquid foods, such as fish fertilizer or houseplant and orchid foods, supply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in one product.
- Supplements address a single need, for example calcium, iron, silicon, carbohydrates or bloom support, and are used alongside a base fertilizer.
- Wetting agents and vitamin or kelp products, such as yucca extract or SUPERthrive, help water spread or support plant recovery rather than replacing feeding.
- pH adjusters help bring nutrient solutions into a good range; some are pickup in store only.
